Do the Math To Figure Out How Much the Decision Can REALLY Cost<\/h2>\n<p>For most people, the cost of attending school is more than they can manage with a one-time outlay of cash. Instead, it\u2019s much more common to secure outside financing in the form of scholarships, grants, and student loans.<\/p>\n<p>Scholarships and grants are financial awards that don\u2019t have to be repaid. Many schools, <a href=\"https:\/\/escoffierscholarship.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">including Escoffier<\/a>, can offer scholarships to students who demonstrate financial need and that apply and qualify. The federal government also offers need-based Pell grants to help low-income students access an education.<\/p>\n<p>And for those who don\u2019t qualify for need-based aid, or who need additional funding to supplement that aid, merit-based scholarships may be awarded based on a student\u2019s skills and\/or experiences.<\/p>\n<p>Since these financial gifts don\u2019t have to be repaid, students should <a href=\"https:\/\/www.escoffier.edu\/blog\/financing-your-education\/complete-guide-to-culinary-school-scholarships\/\">apply to as many scholarships as they qualify for<\/a>. Every dollar that a student secures in scholarships or grants is a dollar they won\u2019t have to borrow in student loans!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.escoffier.edu\/blog\/financing-your-education\/can-you-pay-for-culinary-school-with-student-loans\/\">Student loans<\/a> are a valuable tool and have been the means of making postsecondary education possible for millions of people. But we want to make sure everyone who secures one does so with their eyes wide open.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.escoffier.edu\/blog\/financing-your-education\/a-guide-to-paying-back-student-loans\/\">Loans must be repaid<\/a> with interest. And a single percentage point difference could add up to thousands of dollars over the life of the loan. Some loans also come with origination or application fees. That doesn\u2019t necessarily mean they\u2019re bad loans! But these are still important factors to consider.<\/p>\n<p>To apply for federal grants and student loans, students will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.escoffier.edu\/blog\/financing-your-education\/fafsa-for-culinary-school\/\">complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA\u00ae)<\/a>. Filling out this form is the only way to find out what kind of federal aid you can receive. When assessing loan options, plug them into an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.calculator.net\/amortization-calculator.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">amortization calculator<\/a> to get the whole picture. Put in the total loan amount, the loan term (years it will take to repay), and the interest rate. The calculator will return your approximate monthly payment and tell you how much you might pay in interest over the life of the loan.<\/p>\n<p>This process may be a big help before taking your next step\u2026<\/p>\n<h2>5. Consider the Return on Your Investment<\/h2>\n<p>Don\u2019t only think about what your investment will <em>cost<\/em>. Also consider what you could stand to gain! Still, home ownership can also come with non-financial returns. The stability of owning your home and not being subjected to rent increases can be a major benefit to some.
